A few months ago, I wrote about Jupiter Rising. Well after feeling a pull to move to Jupiter, Florida, I took a deeper dive to see whether there is a link between the honeybee and the planet. And there sure is.
Consider this ancient myth: Once upon an ancient time, long, long ago, a Queen Bee from Mount Hymettus, Greece, ascended to Olympus to ask Jupiter for protection. She was tired of mortals taking her sweet, yummy honey.
The King of the Gods, who possessed great wisdom and authority, was a powerful deity known in Roman mythology as the ruler of the heavens. One day, while strolling through a lush garden, Jupiter’s attention was captured by the diligent little bee buzzing from flower to flower.
Intrigued by her tireless activity, Jupiter approached the tiny creature and asked, “Why do you toil so diligently, buzzing from one flower to another?”
The bee, engrossed in its essential task, responded without hesitation:
“Great Jupiter, I help the flowers have sex. I cross-pollinate. And I am collecting nectar to create honey for my hive and queen. Through my diligent work, I ensure the survival and well-being of my fellow bees.”
Jupiter was impressed by the bee’s sense of purpose and dedication. Intrigued, he decided to test the bee’s humility. Jupiter appeared before the bee, transforming into a human, concealing his true identity.
